WISDOM's International Dinner and Ethnic Heritage Festival

On Sunday, October 18th WISDOM held its first fundraiser at the North Congregational Church in Farmington Hills. This event entitled "A Taste of WISDOM: Harmony for Humanity International Dinner and Ethnic Heritage Festival" was in honor of the 8th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days, a global happening affirming the ideals of interfaith friendship and our shared humanity. WISDOM invited folks to bring food from their family traditions, and we were fortunate to have food from around the world - lots of Asian, Middle Eastern, Eastern and Western European, and North and South American dishes to sample.

After dinner, which included a raffle and silent auction, Gail Katz, President of WISDOM, made a presentation about this wonderful Women's Interfaith organization and its mission to bring together women of different faith traditions, along with their families and friends, to buid respect and understanding, to dispel myths, sterotypes, prejudices, and fear about faith traditions different from our own.

The presentation was then followed by an array of exciting and entertaining ethnic music, dance and song. It was a treat to hear the Yiddish music of the Schmaltz Klezmer Ensemble and to see people of many faith traditions dancing the "hora" around the room. We were blessed to hear gospel music, sikh drums, Arabic music on the aud, Hebrew and peace songs, as well as to watch South Indian classical music and contemporary dance.

Thanks to everyone who brought food, supplied the entertainment, and gave generously to WISDOM through cash donations or items for our raffle and silent auction. Below are some photos from the event.

Enjoy!! We hope to see you soon.
